The oral test you may have taken as part of the examination process was to determine your qualifications for the classification. The hiring interview is specific to a particular job, in a department for the classification.

There are numerous resources for understanding how to prepare for an interview.  This short description will give you an idea of how to approach the structure of a State of California government job.

A classification can be used in a wide variety of departments; so before you go to your interview, you should familiarize yourself with the mission and functions of that department and how the job you are interviewing for contributes.  One of the easiest ways to do this is to find the mission statement for that particular unit or division to see what the existing management has planned for their staff. This way you can see beforehand what will be expected of you and will allow you to articulate what you will contribute to the organization.
