Listed below are timeline estimates that may help you with your planning.

  1. You've heard that a specific agency will soon have an opening. When will the job be listed on Current Openings?
Answer: The hiring agency determines when to announce a position. Issues that can delay a job being listed on Current Openings are: agency budget, funding issues, or restructuring of the job. A great way to stay up-to-date on current job openings is by subscribing to our automatic job notification system. This is found under the link “Automatic Job Notifications” in the “State Jobs” section of our website. You then have the option to subscribe to job categories, agencies and job classifications (titles). When we publish new job announcements, our system will automatically e-mail you alerts when a job becomes available that you have subscribed to.
  2. How long is a job announcement listed on Current Openings?
Answer: It is open for at least 5 days with a closing date set by the hiring agency. It is a good idea to check the DHR web site regularly so you don't miss an exciting opportunity!

  3. Okay, I applied - when do I receive a score?
Answer: Scores are usually determined within 2-3 weeks after the closing date on the job announcement. Scores are posted for each recruitment in your individual account.
  4. I applied and need to take a scheduled multiple choice or oral exam. What happens next?
Answer: If the exam for the position you applied requires scheduling, you will be notified of the testing date, time, and location within 2 weeks after the closing date on the job announcement.

  5. I got my score. Now what?
Answer: Remember, the hiring agency has to request a Hiring List with the names and contact information for the top scores. Many agencies request this immediately after the scores are available but others may wait (for various reasons). Once the agency has a Hiring List, they review the applications and decide how many of the applicants to interview; they will contact you directly. This part of the process may take several weeks so hang in there! Remember, your name on a Hiring List does not guarantee an interview.

  6. If I get the job, how will I know?
Answer:The hiring agency will contact you. They will also discuss with you benefits, your start date and salary, and any other job specific issues.
