Mississippi Application Process PDF Print E-mail

The Mississippi State Personnel Board (SPB), Mississippi Department of Employment Security, and the Workforce Investment Network (WIN) offices across the state list job announcements for agencies requesting to fill vacancies. If you are interested in a position with a state agency, you must first submit an application. The following information will assist you in completing your applications:

BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION:

  • To review the current SPB jobs listings click here:  Current Job Listing (updated each Monday and Thursday), or your local Workforce Investment Network (WIN) Office;
  • Carefully examine the minimum requirements (and/or Special Qualifications) of each position to make sure you meet these requirements; and
  • Complete a separate, original application for each position.

WHEN COMPLETING AN APPLICATION:

  • Use BLACK ink and print (or type) neatly as applications are copied and forwarded to hiring agency;
  • Indicate the EXACT title of the position as stated on the job description;
  • Complete all areas applicable to include educational field of study; semester/quarter hours; beginning and ending month and year of employment; hours worked per week; and a DETAILED description of your work experience on the application (an incomplete application will delay processing).

WHEN YOU SUBMIT A COMPLETED APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT:

  • It must be received (not postmarked) by the SPB or WIN Job Office no later than 5:00 P.M. on the announced CLOSING DATE (where applicable).
  • Your rank on the list of qualified applicants will be determined by the score of your application evaluation.
  • You will be notified, in writing, of the final action of your application.

THIS INFORMATION WILL NOT BE FURNISHED BY TELEPHONE OR IN PERSON. WHEN A VACANCY OCCURS:

  • Upon an agency's request, the SPB forwards an electronically printed Certificate of Eligibles (COE) to the hiring agency. This Certificate contains the names of the applicants possessing the top ten scores from the List of Eligibles. The hiring agency then contacts applicants on the COE for interviews.
  • The names of individuals not selected to fill a particular vacancy remain on the List of Eligibles until they are hired, until they indicate they are no longer interested in the job, until they refuse a job or interview, or until their application expires (one year).
  • You may extend your time on the List of Eligibles by submitting a written request for an extension no less than fifteen (15) days prior to the expiration date.

Please allow fifteen (15) business days for a written response from the State Personnel Board.

If you require further information regarding the application process, you may contact the Recruitment Division at (601)359-2725, or by writing the State Personnel Board at 301 North Lamar Street, Suite 203, Robert G. Clark, Jr. Building, Jackson, Mississippi 39201. The State Personnel Board is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
