North Carolina to Cut 1,000 State Government Jobs Print

On March 17, 2009 Governor Beverly Perdue said that the North Caroline state government workforce would be reduced by 1,000 jobs.  Currently the state employs 95,000+ people, which includes full-time, part-time, trainees, and limited term positions  These cuts are supposedly going to come from currently vacant positions and would not effect the existing workforce.  The largest proposed cuts would come from:

 

  • N.C. Department of Correction: 527 positions
  • N.C. Department of Correction: 527
  • N.C. Department of Health and Human Services: 90.25
  • University of North Carolina: 73.6
  • N.C. Department of Juvenile Justice: 51
  • N.C. Department of Revenue: 31
  • N.C. Department of Administration: 29
  • N.C. Department of Agriculture: 26.7
  • N.C. Department of Cultural Resources: 17.25
